Wow what a journey!

Have you ever had one of those days, weeks, years, decades that you just want to erase. You just want to pretend never happen, or go back and at least make some changes while they happened. Oh, my gosh. It can feel like an endless cycle. I am always traveling in one of those vicious cycles, and I feel so lonely at times, until I remember that I have this place to come to so I do not feel so alone. That’s the cool thing about a group, is triggering the “I get that” with at least one other human, when maybe noone else seems to get it. Right now I just had a big fight out with my mother, and I am glad I said everything that I did (maybe I wish I said it more properly). However, it is difficult because now I have to wait (and waiting is so hard for my anxiety, ptsd, depression) on how she will respond. Will I loose her as a mother, as a friend, or will I finally have a better friend and mother because she understands me a little better? I don’t know at this point. And its scary and I regret what I have said now and I wish I had just not caused a problem, and after its over if my life gets more complicated and not better I’ll be so sad I wrote this. But for now, I write you my friends, I’ve called upon a backup person to help me approach her if she wants to restore our relationship. And now I’m letting it go with this writing knowing I can’t take it back, what’s done is done, and I can only hope now for restoration instead of continued misunderstandings.

Support for The Bipolar Writer Mental Health Advocacy & Writing

Photo by Kelly Sikkema on Unsplash

As you know, everything outside of my writing is for the mental illness community and is mainly free to all. The Podcast is a free outlet for people within the community to share their stories and to listen, but it is not free to do a podcast. There is equipment that needs to be paid for and time. I am dependent on the mental health advocacy side for the podcast and blog to be “listener and reader supported.” As much as I hate to reach out, it always helps when the support comes from the community because it shows that the platforms that I have are essential, like The Bipolar Writer Podcast and The Bipolar Writer blog.

So how can you support The Bipolar Writer? Well, there are several ways.

  • There is becoming a listener supporter through the anchor.fm. That link is here. It is simple to support Apple Pay or a credit card for once month, and you can end your support whenever it feel right to you. There are options for $0.99, $4.99, and $9.99, and all options will go 100% to the podcast. No need to create an account.
  • Last is Buy Me A Coffee, a great platform in my mind and where I want to grow most of my lister support for the Podcast, blog, and in some ways, my writing. You can be a monthly subscriber, a one time supporter, and there are options for extras that include one on one mental health advocacy Zoom call where you can ask mental health questions and tiers with my books. Soon to come will be t-shirts, mugs, and stickers available as soon as I get all that together. You can click the button below.

Over the years, you, my audience, is why I continue to do my mental health advocacy. Joining me allows for other projects and gives me more outlets to help end the stigma, and while I am saying that it takes the community. I have a major writing project called The Many Faces and Voices of Mental Illness, and I want to open up my own non-profit. I know times are tough at times, but if you can help a little, please reach out in one of the ways above. It means the world to me and allows me to continue to bring the content that helps the community as a whole. If you can, please listen to The Bipolar Writer Podcast on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music or wherever you listen to podcasts.

The Bipolar Writer Podcast – Kim’s Interview

Photo by Erda Estremera on Unsplash

Today’s episode features an interview with the founder of Grounds for Clarity, Kim Johnson. Kim comes on The Bipolar Writer Podcast at my behest to share her story like all the interviewees that come on and share what she does for a living (life coaching) and sharing her wisdom. Doubt can always creep into our lives, and it can be hard to move on from the past. Kim discusses many essential topics connected to these things that include LivingWorks and how one conversation with her is perhaps what you are looking for right now, in the mental illness community like myself. I have firsthand experience with Kim’s brand of life coaching, and it has helped me be aware of life around me, be open to feelings and emotions, be vulnerable, find ways to live in the now, and work on the inner I. What is unique is that life coaching is not telling you what you need but instead giving you the tools you already have within you.

You can find Kim’s Episode here.

The Bipolar Writer Podcast Episode Ten – Interview of Yun From Malaysia

Photo by Esmonde Yong on Unsplash

It is my honor to share the first international episode of The Bipolar Writer Podcast. I want to welcome Yun all the way from Malaysia! Yun comes on my show at my request to share her own story dealing with her mental illness and the differences in culture than what many audience members and I know here in the United States. Listen to her story because, as always, we must share all stories no matter where they come from in this global world.

Buy Me A Coffee

Stories are so crucial to the Bipolar Writer Podcast and The Bipolar Writer Collaborative Blog for the community. We are the stories, and each of us carries a unique story within the mental illness community, and I want to share yours. Consider becoming an interviewee on the show. Our stories transform what society sees and show the real chipping away at the stigma, and perhaps the future, the ones that are young and dealing with mental health and mental illness, that we have to protect. Our stories are the key.

Join me in listening to Yun’s story from Malaysia.

Photo by Austin Distel on Unsplash

I have talked about the podcast before in a post. With a couple of episodes under my belt, I wanted to share what this means to me. It means everything and also what the podcast will be. In conjunction with The Voices of Mental Illness book and my upcoming work in the realm of nonprofit in 2021, the many things I plan on doing alongside the podcast. I want people to be a part of the experience. That means you, the followers of the blog to become a part of the journey through interviews. I will do the interviews on Zoom and then put them into episodes.

We will talk about mental illnesses, mental health, depression, anxiety, suicide, bullying, the divide between the mental illness community and the mental health professional community. Everything in between will be discussed, and no idea is off-limits.

Alcoholism and Mental Health – Episode Eleven The Bipolar Writer Podcast

This is one of those episodes that makes me happy as it is just me, the mic, the ideas in my head, and you, the audience. On January 1st, 2021, I recommitted to my sobriety after losing five years after my mother’s death. Alcoholism has a history in my life, and I discuss how it came into my life, how it is not great to mix alcoholism with mental illness, how I used alcohol as a coping mechanism, and so much more. What I want from these episodes is to learn through my own experiences, and if it reaches one person, then that is okay. I have done what I set out to do.

HOW ANXIETY CAN AFFECT YOU IN UNEXPECTED WAYS

Most anxiety triggers evolve into a physical manifestation or a noticeable psychological response. You sweat, you are worried, your heart races鈥. If you have anxiety chances are you have experienced one or all of those symptoms. There are long term effects to anxiety that can impact you in unexpected ways. You might be having one of these struggles at a moment when you are not in the throes of anxiety. However, repeated bouts of anxiety effect one鈥檚 cognitive ability, to varying degrees.

Anxiety can affect your memory. Anxiety impacts your ability to focus and that can have a deteriorating effect on your ability to consolidate memories and hinder recall. This isn鈥檛 to say that it鈥檚 a prelude to a deeper psychological condition or deteriorating of your memory but lack of focus can impact quick queues you need for memory. A classic example of this is remembering someone鈥檚 name. Do you get anxious meeting new people? Do you have trouble remembering new people鈥檚 names? I sure do.

Anxiety can harm your self-esteem. Having anxiety means you are acutely aware of how you feel and because of our social construct you are aware that it鈥檚 not excepted as normal. This can begin to erode away your self-esteem and cause you to exhibit withdraw like symptoms such as changing how you dress, where you look when you are in a crowd and the tone of your voice when speaking to others. These are often subtle but real. Next time you are in a crowd of people, be aware of where your eyes are. Are you looking at the ground? Or are you engaging people head up with eye contact?

Anxiety can impact your immune system. The more you worry the more your nervous system demands resources from your body to accommodate your mind. When something negative happens in your life do you a day or two later end up with the sniffles? This is pretty common actually, the brain demands a lot from your body and this is why it is so important to get enough sleep and eat well. Your immune system can be over taxed very easily, there are germs everywhere and if you鈥檙e worried you are sending your immune system into battle with one hand tied behind its back.

Embrace yourself, Embrace the Light. You are doing awesome, one day at a time.

Anxiety could cause you to have a 鈥渂reak out鈥. Now this is often exclusive to younger people, however from time to time even those of us well into our adult lives get acne. Worry and anxiety can tax your immune system and one of the results of this can be a break out of acne. I remember when I was a teenager WAY BACK in the dark days of the 80鈥檚  we had all sorts of acne medicine you could by over the counter. I used to get break outs from time to time and upon reflection it was often when I was anxious. That anxiety was a neurological trigger for me that pumped out hormones and as a result I had break outs creating EVEN MORE anxiety.

Anxiety sucks, it鈥檚 not cut and dry as to how it affects you and what your triggers are. Just remember no matter how bad it gets, or how crappy you feel, there are millions of us out there who have it. You aren鈥檛 alone. This post was more a pep talk really, from someone suffering through some if not all of the above. If I can make it, so can you. One day at a time, you got this !

Today and friends

So today I have been thinking about friendships and one in particular. My boyfriend has a female friend that has known for a couple of years long than he’s known me. Well over the summer last year they were talking all day every day for about a 3 hours a day. When I’ve asked him to not talk to her he said no that he wouldn’t stop. I’m supposed to be his partner, but I don’t feel like it.

Well the last time I had asked him to not talk to her she threatened to go behind my back to see and talk to him. This hurts a lot, but what makes it worse is that he did talk to her behind my back. Which hurts even more. I don’t know if I can trust him to not do that again. I really wish he just would block her on everything. He doesn’t need her all she does is add stress to him and then it gets turned around on me and he’s an ass to me.

I’m not even sure what to do with these emotions I feel like crying and ignoring his call later today. I feel like that would be a bitch move but I’m not sure what else to do. He has asked me to not talk to my family before and I can’t ask him to not talk to her. I’m not even sure what to do about my relationship with him. I already feel really bad lately about the way I am. I feel bad about myself in general and put myself down a lot. I understand that you are not supposed to do that, but I have such low self-esteem lately that I don’t feel capable to tell him how I feel.
