Hi, my name is Jess, I’m a Latina in my mid 30’s I’m a mom & wife, and I am diagnosed with GAD & Panic disorder. It’s an honor to be on here to speak my truths about my mental health & advocate for this movement with James. I want to continue to break the stigmas about mental illness among our communities of people of color. I have my own blog called She’s Hiatus. It’s my muse of self-expression through my writing from poetry, my life experiences & fictional pieces. I’m also introducing a movement called “she’s hiatus,” which serves as a reminder that it’s essential to stop & smell the roses. Life is full of hustle & bustle. We need to allow ourselves to go hiatus to work on ourselves, do things that we enjoy, be present with ourselves & loved ones by keeping those moments simple, private & just BE.

Learning how to find balance in life and especially managing our virtual life nowadays is vital for our mental health & overall wellbeing since it can be so time-consuming. I also feature a remarkable collection of stories from amazing & brave women called “Her story.” This collective brings a voice to women of color that share their personal life experiences with me & the world. This ongoing project holds great sentimental value with me & it’s an honor to be part of it.

Please follow my blog & IG: www.sheshiatus.com  IG: @sheshiatus

Check out my piece called “Violent waves,” which perfectly describes a panic attack in my perspective in the link below.

2020 – James’ Year in Review

Photo by Jukka Aalho on Unsplash

I wanted to share my experiences as James Edgar Skye with the ups, the downs, even the negatives and positives of life. I shared what I went through, which was a lot in 2020, with my mother’s loss in December 2019, and it changed my world. I still went through immense pain, and I am trying my best to continue to work on my inner I with living in the now. Life coaching was a major part and was suicidal thoughts that I endured. I felt the feels and was more vulnerable to others outside of me than at any point on this journey.  Join me as I talk about what 2020 meant to me, The Bipolar Writer and James Edgar Skye.

The Bipolar Writer Podcast Season 0 Episode 2

What’s 2021 Been Like for The Bipolar Writer

Photo by Grant Watkins on Unsplash

I wanted to share an episode of The Bipolar Writer Podcast that is not part of the regular season one. It is outside the regular episodes. These are like regular episodes that I share my experiences with, but they are usually a stream of consciousness: the microphone and the audience.

These episodes, unlike the other episodes, these are not as structured. I like these, and I always post them right after recording them, so I do not have the chance to focus too much on editing or what I said. It is about living wholly in the moment and the now. I hope you enjoy!

You can find the episode here.

My Interview with Isami

Photo by Darius Bashar on Unsplash

I am honored to share the story of fellow mental health advocate, Isami. I have known Isami, followed her work, and worked with her before. It is incredible to see how she has grown within her mental illness journey since I met her in 2017. I wrote a feature article about Isami in 2018 for The Bipolar Writer Blog. Now, it is my great honor to give a voice to her story on my podcast and catch up with how she is doing today. I have seen amazing things that Isami has done with her mental health advocacy work, and I know you will enjoy this interview.

I wanted to update the blog on how The Bipolar Writer Podcast is doing, and I happy to say that it is going well! The interviews have been amazing, and season one is well on its way. I hope for about fifty episodes for the first season, and I am sure I will reach that goal no problem. The outpour of listeners and interviewees has been tremendous. I want to continue that momentum for the rest of the year. For the latest episodes, look up The Bipolar Writer Podcast on places like Spotify and Apple Podcast or wherever you listen to podcasts.

Support for The Bipolar Writer Mental Health Advocacy & Writing

Photo by Kelly Sikkema on Unsplash

As you know, everything outside of my writing is for the mental illness community and is mainly free to all. The Podcast is a free outlet for people within the community to share their stories and to listen, but it is not free to do a podcast. There is equipment that needs to be paid for and time. I am dependent on the mental health advocacy side for the podcast and blog to be “listener and reader supported.” As much as I hate to reach out, it always helps when the support comes from the community because it shows that the platforms that I have are essential, like The Bipolar Writer Podcast and The Bipolar Writer blog.

So how can you support The Bipolar Writer? Well, there are several ways.

The Bipolar Writer Podcast Episode Ten – Interview of Yun From Malaysia

Photo by Esmonde Yong on Unsplash

It is my honor to share the first international episode of The Bipolar Writer Podcast. I want to welcome Yun all the way from Malaysia! Yun comes on my show at my request to share her own story dealing with her mental illness and the differences in culture than what many audience members and I know here in the United States. Listen to her story because, as always, we must share all stories no matter where they come from in this global world.

Buy Me A Coffee

Stories are so crucial to the Bipolar Writer Podcast and The Bipolar Writer Collaborative Blog for the community. We are the stories, and each of us carries a unique story within the mental illness community, and I want to share yours. Consider becoming an interviewee on the show. Our stories transform what society sees and show the real chipping away at the stigma, and perhaps the future, the ones that are young and dealing with mental health and mental illness, that we have to protect. Our stories are the key.

The Bipolar Writer Episode Six

Men’s Mental Health

Excitement always comes to mind when it comes to sharing the latest episode of The Bipolar Writer Podcast. I have to admit that it has been so impressive that all the people who have become listeners in the short time the podcast has been live. I am in awe of all the people lining up for a guest spot, and these are extraordinary times to share with the world. I even had my first international interview, all the way from Malaysia, that you will be listening to soon. It is memorable to be working on my mental health advocacy again on a new platform.

Buy Me A Coffee

Episode six looks at Men’s Mental Health – Why Are Men Not Talking About Mental Health? It is an essential topic for me, and you will see the passion I have for this topic. The episode is bit darker, although is my thing. It is possible what you listen to what I am saying could be wrong. If I am wrong, then okay. I have the experience to back it up, you will see a future episode with a retraction, but I see what I see within the community.

I wanted this podcast to be different, and yes, I am sharing the stories of others. It is a significant part, but I must also shake things up within the community to end the stigma. In this episode, what I say might be controversial to some, and you will see it a lot in solo episodes, but the point that will be made will make my point within the episode. Please listen to the entire episode because this subject must be discussed, so you can leave comments, reach out in emails, or even leave me a message on my phone (my number is on this blog). I hope you enjoy it!

The Bipolar Writer Podcast

I finally leaped, and with some coaching from my life coach, I decided on that my podcast would become a reality, something that is a long time in the making. The first episode is up, and I will be creating more content in the coming months that will discuss the many issues facing the mental illness and mental health community. I welcome you to The Bipolar Writer Podcast.

There was a lot of fear in making this leap. One, I hate my voice, and the ego was telling me that I had nothing interesting to say, and I was listening. Needless to say, months went by, and in truth, lately, I was dealing with the aftermath of my last suicide plan and my issues with depression but that is an immaterial thing because they were just excuses to not do the podcast. I have the equipment, computer, and everything it takes. I was just scared to take a chance on a different platform to allow me more flexibility and bringing people onto the podcast will be something that is different for me.

The purpose of The Bipolar Writer Blog was to transform into podcasts and even videos in the future. With all my writing projects and my business The Bipolar Writer Ghostwriting Services, it is getting harder to find time to write blog posts, though that is an excuse in itself. You can always find the time. I want to rededicate my time to mental health advocacy in 2021, and this podcast is the next logical step. In December, I will be working on getting episodes prepared to begin to get some podcasts out there in the world. I am looking for potential interviewees in mental health and mental illness realm that includes professionals and those in the mental illness community. I would love to share your story.

There is so much work to be done, but I am staying in the moment and enjoying each moment. It was always that way writing blog posts for The Bipolar Writer Collaborative blog. It will be my honor to be a voice for the community in another place that I believe is needed and allow voices to be heard. It will have the James Edgar Skye edge that I have always used in my blog writing and writing in general. I am excited, and I hope you will join me as a listener!
