I will keep this short. On Monday, June 28th, my dad was hospitalized with a heart attack. Those that have been following me know that I lost my mom in December 2019. It will be a long road for my dad after the double bypass surgery, and he is not in the greatest of health overall. I am raising funds for medical expenses. My dad is a great hard working guy who could not get medical insurance because it was too much. Now we need significant help. I wanted to share an episode of The Bipolar Writer Podcast that is not part of the regular season one. It is outside the regular episodes. These are like regular episodes that I share my experiences with, but they are usually a stream of consciousness: the microphone and the audience.
These episodes, unlike the other episodes, these are not as structured. I like these, and I always post them right after recording them, so I do not have the chance to focus too much on editing or what I said. It is about living wholly in the moment and the now. I hope you enjoy!
This will be coming out of the left field. I know I should have been marketing this book more here and in other places. Tomorrow should be, barring any more setbacks, the release of Angel on the Ward, a novella by James Edgar Skye!

Life. Death. We have the power in us to take our life away, and James tried that with his own. Here is the thing. When you survive suicide, the aftermath devastates the survivor psychologically. For James, it landed him in a psychiatric ward with a fresh new diagnosis. The mysterious Angel appears on the ward with all the answers. James struggles with his dark passenger taking the wheel with Angel as his guide to the darkness. His world will be forever changed by a dream, but what does that mean? James will find out. So will you in Angel on the Ward.
The book deals with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, diagnosis, life on the ward, suicide, self-harm, and other important topics that I thought could fit in about 130 plus pages and 35K words. It is action-packed, and I consider it a psychological thriller within the mental illness realm. It is written in my normal third-person omniscient from the main character. It was initially a short story I wrote when I began my bachelor’s degree.
You can find all my books on my author’s website, including the new novella. I hope to get everything cleared by tonight, including adding the novella and where but it to James’ book corner. If everything works out accordingly, I will be releasing the novella on the first anniversary of my mom’s passing, December 15th, tomorrow! Tomorrow will be a filled day as I plan on releasing my next Podcast episode as well, where I discuss how the last year has been, the things that I have done, and how I am dealing with the grief. It will be about tomorrow and my experience on the 6th, which marked the first anniversary of my mother’s stroke and the last time that I got to talk to her in person.
With that said, I hope that if you are a fan of my work, you are willing to purchase the book either on kindle unlimited or paperback (which I would love the most!) There will be more to come after the release about possibly selling the book on my website alongside my memoir, and looking out for a future post about getting a copy of the book in exchange for good or bad reviews does not matter to me. I am at a crossroads as I begin 2021 on the right note. The Bipolar Writer Blog has been the highlight of the last few years in my quest to be a mental health advocate. I love that I have been able to share stories, bring in writers, and make this a safe place for us in the mental illness community to discuss mental health since 2017. The crossroads is if we continue to provide the right amount of people writing and sharing to make this blog still work?
What helps is having writers, and I hope that in 2021 my writers come back, and we can continue to share our stories. For at least this blog, it is not getting people to read the current things being written through WordPress. I see it overall with WordPress, and I could be wrong, but fewer people are on than when I started this blog in 2017. It is why I decided to begin the podcast. It made sense to find a new platform. So, anyone willing to join our group of writers, please reach out in the page’s contact area, or you can email me at email@example.com.
The hope is to keep the blog in February, and we will see, but I need more people writing on the blog to make it worth it to continue the blog. As much as I love writing, my time will be split up a lot this year. Who knows, many people have really launched their own blogs through The Bipolar Writer blog. In the episode, I got the honor of interviewing Bri, a mental health advocate and a blogger. In the interview, she tells us about her mental illness and shares her journey from its origins to today, where she deals with a plethora of diagnoses daily. We discuss how the pandemic has changed mental illness, how she deals with medications, the different diagnoses, the people in her life that make her happy, and what she thinks about the stigma surrounding mental illness, including borderline personality disorder. Stop. It was told to me by someone in the context of when things become too much. Overloading on staying productive, working to make things happen in your business, school, work, or any situation, STOP.
This is such a fast-paced world that we live in, even in a pandemic. It is all about being on that hamster wheel of life. STOP is such a powerful word in your vocabulary because you can say it to yourself. Stop being so worried and let it go. You can tell yourself to stop letting stress take over your life. It is okay to say stop, I have had enough of life today, and I need a break. There is nothing wrong, and yet the emphasis by everyone around us is to not stop. Keep going because it will be okay if you immerse yourself in things that keep you busy or, worse, the distractions in life.
Don’t worry, I have been one of the worse offenders who did not tell myself to stop when stress is a part of my daily life. For a long time, I had used distractions and even the thing I love most in this world, writing, as a way to not stop. All work and no play makes James a dull boy. For so long, I was stressed to the max, where it began towards the end of summer, and since my mother’s death, it affected my health significantly. I could not stop. It got so bad that suicide became an option in October. It was worth it to hit that lowest of lows because it made me realize that I was working myself with school, starting a business, the many writing projects, and everything else that I could to distract. Just stop, James.
When I finally took the advice of this kindred spirit, it was a lifesaver. It is not a perfect world as sometimes I forget and get overwhelmed about things like money and my business. Still, I have been telling myself to stop more and more feeling the effects of slowing down to enjoy some of the things that make life great. In this pandemic world where things, at least here in California, are closed down again, and I can’t go downtown to sit outside a coffee shop or visit my favorite bookstore. I can still tell myself to stop when I have hit my limit for the day, and it varies. I can write for hours some days and very little to none others.
Take a moment to stop and just listen to the birds outside while you are sipping on your morning coffee or, in my case, tea. Let yourself breathe and see how it changes your day. I sometimes can sit for hours on end in front of something I am writing, and so I use the technology at my disposal to remind me to get top and walk around—dance for a few minutes every hour or so. Find ways to make lemonade out of the lemons of life. Okay, enough of the metaphors, but it is okay to STOP. Life within creativity will always find a way, and you only have a finite time on this earth. You might as well make the best of it while you are still breathing. Just STOP, the most powerful word in your vocabulary. Listen to what the universe is telling you to live in the now.
Well, I thought it was time as I move forward to launching my LLC in January 2021. The Bipolar Writer Ghostwriting Services is looking for its first new clients for the new year. While the business is new, I have been ghostwriting for close to six years, and I have several books under my belt, and I have current projects that will cross over into the new business. I am a memoirist at heart.
The Bipolar Writer Ghostwriting Services focus will be on memoir writing in the mental health/mental illness realm, but I have other services that include a complete ghostwriting package, copywriting services, manuscript evaluations, teaching how to become a better writer, and blogger. While my main focus is on memoirs of any kind, I am willing to work on smaller projects as well. Even collaborative work will become a focus.
